Artificial Grass Lawn Installation

A green yard all summer, with no mowing, watering or fertilizing. We clear the old lawn, build a base that drains, and lay turf cut to your yard.

Why bay-area yards switch to turf

Around Galveston Bay a grass lawn has a hard life: heat for months, standing water after storms, and soil that runs from sticky clay to loose sand. Brown patches and mud are what most people are trying to get rid of.

An artificial lawn takes the mowing, watering and fertilizing off your list. It does not fix bad drainage by itself, though. That part is the base underneath, and it is most of the job.

What goes into a turf lawn

Clear the old lawn

Grass, roots and weeds come out, down to firm ground, so nothing grows back up through the turf.

Grade for runoff

Flat lots get a gentle slope so rain runs off instead of sitting under the turf.

Compacted base

A compacted base layer that drains and keeps the surface flat for years of foot traffic.

Seams and edges

Turf cut to beds, walks and fences, with seams joined so the grain runs one way.

Choosing turf for a lawn

Lawn turf is mostly about looks and feel: blade height, color, and how soft it is underfoot. If the lawn also gets dogs or heavy play, a denser turf holds up better. It's worth seeing and feeling samples before you choose.

Pile height
About 1.5 to 2.5 in Taller looks fuller; shorter stands up better to traffic.
Drainage
Roughly 44 to over 1,000 in/hr The range across the lawn turf we work with. The base matters as much.
Infill
Brushed in after laying Holds the blades upright and weighs the turf down.

Common Questions

Common Questions

Will an artificial lawn drain after a heavy storm?

The turf drains through its backing, but on a flat lot the water still needs somewhere to go. That's why we grade the ground and build a compacted base before turf goes down. If your yard pools badly today, tell us when you ask for a quote.

Do I still need to water an artificial lawn?

No watering to keep it green. An occasional rinse with a hose clears dust and pollen, and on hot days a rinse cools the surface for a while.

Can you put turf in just part of the yard?

Yes. A lot of people turf the area that struggles most, like a shady patch or a strip that floods, and leave the rest. We cut the turf to beds, walks and edging.

What happens to my existing grass?

It comes out, roots and all, along with weeds. Turf laid over live grass lets it grow back up through and leaves an uneven surface.
