Playground turf

Playground Turf Installation

A play area that stays usable after it rains, without bare dirt under the swings or mud tracked through the house.

Play areas take a beating

Grass under a swing set or along a trampoline wears down to dirt fast, and around Galveston Bay that dirt turns to mud after every storm. Turf keeps the area green and usable.

A play area gets more concentrated wear than any other part of a yard, so it needs a tougher turf and a base that drains well enough for kids to be back outside soon after the rain stops.

What a play area needs

Around the equipment

We plan the layout around swings, slides and playsets staying in place, or work in stages if they need to move.

Drains after storms

A graded, compacted base so the area dries out instead of turning to mud.

Built for traffic

A denser turf that springs back from running, sliding and dragging feet.

Fall height

Turf on its own is not an impact-rated surface. If kids climb or swing high, tell us so we can talk about what goes underneath.

Choosing turf for play

Play turf is usually shorter and denser than lawn turf, so it stands up to heavy use and is easy to keep clean. Softness underfoot matters too. It's worth feeling samples before you choose.

Pile height
About 1.25 to 2 in Dense enough to spring back from heavy use.
Drainage
Roughly 54 to 81 in/hr Typical of the play turf we work with. The base sets how fast it dries.
Infill
Brushed in after laying Keeps blades upright and the surface even.

Common Questions

Common Questions

Is artificial turf safe under swings and climbing frames?

Turf on its own is not an impact-rated safety surface. If your play equipment has real fall height, tell us when you ask for a quote so we can talk through what goes under the turf.

Do we have to take the play set down?

Not always. We can often work around equipment that stays in place. If it has to move, we'll tell you before the job starts.

How soon can kids use it after rain?

That depends mostly on the base. A graded, compacted base that drains well lets the surface dry out far faster than bare dirt or worn grass.

How do I keep a play area clean?

Clear leaves and debris, rinse it now and then, and brush high-traffic spots to keep the blades upright. Spills rinse off with a hose.
